Italy experienced a significant boost in tourism in 2024, welcoming nearly 460 million visitors, surpassing the previous year’s numbers.
According to preliminary data, an estimated 458.5 million tourists visited Italy, marking a 2.5 percentage point increase compared to 2023, as reported by ANSA, citing a specialized analytical center in Florence.
Despite challenges such as rising service prices that impacted tourism globally, Italy’s tourism sector showed resilience. International tourists were the primary contributors to this growth, though domestic tourism experienced a decline of around 3 percentage points due to inflation and reduced purchasing power.
In response to the pressures of mass tourism, Florence authorities introduced new measures in November. The plan includes restrictions such as banning loudspeakers for tour guides and prohibiting the installation of key boxes on buildings used for short-term rentals.
