New York authorities have decided to strengthen security measures in the city following the tragic events in New Orleans and the fire involving a Tesla Cybertruck in Las Vegas, the city’s mayor announced.
The events in New Orleans occurred early on January 1, when a truck plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 15 people and injuring 35. The truck’s driver, 42-year-old Shamsuddin Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, opened fire on police officers, killing two before being fatally shot in return fire. According to the FBI, symbols associated with the terrorist organization ISIS were found in Jabbar’s vehicle.
On the same day in Las Vegas, a Tesla Cybertruck caught fire near Trump Towers. The incident resulted in one death and seven injuries. Footage from the scene quickly spread on social media. While local police have not officially classified the event as a terrorist attack, ABC News, citing sources, reported that such a possibility is not being ruled out.
Trump Towers is partially owned by Donald Trump, the recently elected President of the United States. The Tesla Cybertruck is manufactured by Elon Musk’s company; Musk is known to have close ties to Trump and is reportedly a potential member of his administration.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. New York authorities are implementing additional measures to prevent any potential threats in the metropolis.
