Ursula von der Leyen canceled visit to Poland due to pneumonia

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been forced to cancel her visit to Poland due to a severe case of pneumonia.

According to European Commission spokesperson Stefan de Keersmaecker, who spoke to the PAP news agency, von der Leyen’s health condition will prevent her from participating in the Commission’s off-site meeting initially scheduled to take place in Gdańsk on January 9-10 as part of Poland’s EU Council Presidency.

The planned event will be postponed to a later date. Additionally, an official ceremony marking the start of Poland’s EU Council Presidency is set to occur on Friday; however, von der Leyen’s attendance at this event was not planned from the outset.
