Germany’s leading political parties have maintained their level of support over the past week, with the conservative CDU/CSU bloc remaining in the lead just under two months before the early Bundestag elections.
This is evidenced by a new poll conducted by the Insa agency for the newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
The CDU/CSU bloc, led by Friedrich Merz, has 31% support among German voters, the same as last week. Following them, with an unchanged 20%, is the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD).
The ratings of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) have changed slightly, dropping by one percentage point to 16%, while the Greens gained one point, now standing at 13%.
The left political project Alliance Sarah Wagenknecht is also projected to clear the 5% electoral threshold, with Insa forecasting it at 7%. Meanwhile, the Free Democrats (4%) and The Left (3%) would not secure seats in the Bundestag according to the poll.
It is worth noting that at the end of December, German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced the dissolution of parliament, paving the way for early elections scheduled for February 23, 2025.
