A fire broke out briefly at an asylum seeker reception center in Eindhoven, Netherlands, late last night, and a man has been arrested on suspicion of arson.
The shelter, located in a former hotel, saw the fire ignite just before 3:00 AM on the third floor, prompting the evacuation of the entire building. Approximately 170 residents were evacuated as a precaution.
According to authorities, the fire began in one room but was quickly brought under control. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether residents will be allowed to return or will need to be relocated.
Paramedics assessed two individuals at the scene who may have inhaled smoke. A police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is one of those who was affected by smoke inhalation. However, authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect is a resident of the shelter.
