France advises citizens against traveling to Iran

France has urged its citizens to avoid traveling to Iran until all French nationals currently detained there are released. This warning was issued by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot made the call, stating that French citizens should refrain from visiting Iran until the release of those imprisoned.

“The situation of our fellow citizens held hostage in Iran is absolutely unacceptable: they have been unjustly detained for years in inhumane conditions… Despite our efforts to engage at the highest level, their situation is worsening. I urge the Iranian authorities: our hostages must be released. The future of our bilateral relations and sanctions depends on this,” Barrot emphasized.

He further highlighted that three French citizens are involved and assured that they are “remembered every second.”

Among those detained are Jacques Paris and Cécile Kohler, a French couple held since May 2022 on charges of espionage. The third detainee is a Frenchman named Olivier, arrested in 2022, though his last name has not been revealed at the family’s request.
