Polish Sejm speaker announces date for announcing presidential election

The Speaker of the Polish Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, has announced that he will reveal the date of the presidential election on Wednesday, January 8.

According to him, three Sundays in May are being considered for the vote: May 11, 18, or 25. May 4 has been excluded as it is a public holiday, and holding elections on such a day “would contradict democratic principles.”

Hołownia emphasized that before making a final decision, he intends to discuss the date with the head of the electoral commission, Sylwester Marciniak.

The presidential election in Poland is scheduled for the first half of 2025. The current president, Andrzej Duda, is completing his second term and is not eligible to run again.

According to the latest poll, the candidate from the “Civic Coalition” party, Rafał Trzaskowski, leads with 36.2% support. He is followed by Karol Nawrocki, backed by the opposition party “Law and Justice,” with 28.8%.
