Venezuelan authorities have arrested seven foreigners who are alleged to have acted as mercenaries and planned terrorist attacks, according to President Nicolás Maduro in a televised address.
The identities of those arrested remain unknown. Reports indicate that the group includes two Americans, two Colombians, and three Ukrainians (some sources mention their involvement in the war in Ukraine). However, Maduro did not provide any evidence to support the claims of their actions or plans.
“They are condemned, and I am confident that within the first hours, they will give confessions. They were planning to carry out terrorist actions against peace in Venezuela,” Maduro said.
The arrests occurred just days before Maduro’s inauguration. He is scheduled to take the oath for his third term on January 10.
