The EU has expressed willingness to cooperate with the Trump administration

The European Commission announced its intention to closely cooperate with the new U.S. administration to strengthen the transatlantic agenda, despite sharp statements from President-elect Donald Trump regarding Greenland.

On Tuesday, speaking at his Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump emphasized Greenland’s strategic importance for U.S. national security. He stated that Greenland should become part of the United States but did not rule out the possibility of using military force to establish control over this territory, as well as the Panama Canal.

At a briefing in Brussels, EU foreign affairs spokesperson Anita Hipper stressed that the European Union adheres to the principle of respecting countries’ sovereignty.

“We will not comment on individual statements. For our part, we look forward to working with the new U.S. administration to strengthen transatlantic relations and pursue shared strategic goals,” she said in response to a question from Danish journalists.

When asked about potential EU actions in the event that Trump imposes economic sanctions against Denmark, the European Commission declined to comment, describing such a scenario as “too hypothetical.”
