Scandal erupts in Poland over anti-tank mines ‘lost’ in IKEA warehouse

A scandal erupted in Poland after dozens of anti-tank mines were found in an IKEA warehouse.

As a result, investigative authorities initiated a case against four army officers, accusing them of improper supervision of the weapons. The incident occurred in the summer of 2024 when soldiers forgot to unload a train carrying military equipment, leaving the mines behind.

These were later discovered at the furniture company’s warehouse. The responsibility for the incident was placed on Major General Artur Kempczyński, who concealed the information from senior officials. As a result, he was dismissed from his position.

An investigation began in August 2024, and charges were filed against the soldiers working at the warehouses. They face up to five years in prison.
