Meta, the company that owns Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, has canceled hiring quotas for LGBTQ individuals and revised its hiring policies, CNN reports, citing an internal company memo.
According to the document, Meta no longer has specialized teams dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The company has also ended partnerships with minority-owned suppliers and abandoned hiring targets for women and LGBTQ representatives.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company faced pressure from the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden. He claimed that authorities demanded Meta enforce censorship on memes.
These changes have sparked heated discussions among experts and users, as they could impact the company’s reputation in corporate social responsibility.
