Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has directed the removal of tampons intended for non-binary individuals and transgender men from men’s restrooms in the company’s offices.
This decision has sparked widespread controversy among employees, according to The New York Times. Alongside this move, customization options for chat themes in the internal Messenger system were removed.
Some employees were outraged that changes to the company’s policies regarding “hateful conduct” were not announced in advance. This led to suspicions that management deliberately withheld information about the new measures until they were officially implemented.
Internal discussions among Meta employees connected to the LGBTQ+ community became heated: at least one employee announced their resignation, while others reported considering leaving the company. Meta’s Chief Marketing Officer Alex Schultz defended Zuckerberg, stating that topics like transgender rights have become overly politicized.
The New York Times described the developments as “reshaping Meta for the Trump era.” The publication linked the changes to a previously reported informal meeting between Zuckerberg and Trump, who has vowed to take a hard stance against what he calls “transgender madness” if re-elected as president.
