Britain says drug drones in prisons threaten national security

The UK’s Chief Inspector of Prisons, Charlie Taylor, reported that the delivery of drugs and weapons to prisons via drones has become a national security threat.

In his report, he highlighted that the situation is particularly alarming in Manchester and Long Lartin prisons, where smuggling is rampant, and security measures, such as protective nets and surveillance systems, have proven inadequate.

Taylor stated that inmates in Manchester are creating holes in windows to receive drone-delivered packages, which could lead to riots or escapes. He emphasized that the inaction of the police and prison services has allowed organized crime groups to dominate the airspace over these prisons.

The UK Ministry of Justice announced that steps are being taken to enhance security, including the installation of new nets and surveillance systems. It also confirmed ongoing cooperation with the police to combat organized crime and increase the capacity of prison facilities for dangerous offenders.
