Ahead of the elections in Germany, the “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) party continues to gain popularity.
According to a poll conducted by the INSA Institute for BILD six weeks before the elections, the party has shown an increase in its ratings. While four weeks ago, AfD was supported by 19.5% of voters, this figure has now risen to 22%, which is 0.5% more than last week. The CDU/CSU remains in first place with 31%.
The “Die Linke” party (the Left) has also slightly increased its support, while the SPD and the Greens have lost 0.5% each.
Klaus-Peter Schöppner, managing director of the Mentefactum institute, noted that AfD’s popularity is driven by Germans’ desire for change. He stated that voters are tired of the “business as usual” and “you know me” approach that characterized Angela Merkel’s era. AfD will continue to gain momentum if the CDU fails to offer changes in the economy, labor market, and migration policy.
