Nine beaches in Australia have been temporarily closed after unusual spherical debris in white and gray hues was discovered on the shore. This was reported in a statement by the Northern Beaches Council.
Authorities are inspecting and cleaning the areas to eliminate any potential risks for beachgoers. A similar incident previously occurred in the Sydney suburb of Randwick, where Coogee Beach was closed due to the appearance of black spheres of unknown origin. Their source and composition remain unidentified.
Experts suggest they could be tar balls, which form when oil mixes with water and debris, often resulting from oil spills. Samples have been collected for analysis to determine the cause.
According to Reuters, in October last year, several beaches, including the famous Bondi Beach, were also closed after thousands of black spheres appeared. Investigations revealed that these spheres consisted of fatty acids and other substances, including components of cosmetics, cleaning agents, as well as hair, food waste, and materials linked to domestic wastewater.
