Cocaine worth €10 million found on beaches of three German islands

Since December, packages containing cocaine have been discovered on the beaches of three German North Frisian islands—Sylt, Föhr, and Amrum. Authorities report a total of approximately 250 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of €10 million, found so far.

The latest discovery occurred in early January when a beachgoer on Sylt stumbled upon packages containing a total of 25 kilograms of cocaine.

Authorities speculate that the packages might be the result of a failed maritime delivery. Another possibility is that drug traffickers attached the cocaine to the exterior of a boat, and it was accidentally lost at sea.

Beach visitors are being warned to stay away from any packages or suspicious objects washed ashore and to report them immediately to customs or the police.

While cocaine has previously washed up on Sylt and other parts of Schleswig-Holstein, the quantities found have been significantly smaller than the current haul of nearly a quarter ton.
