AirlineRatings has unveiled its annual rankings for the safest airlines in 2025, offering reassurance to travelers concerned about aviation safety.
The list evaluates airlines worldwide based on factors like incident records, operational standards, and safety protocols.
Leading full-service airlines in Europe
- Turkish Airlines: Ranked 13th globally, it’s the safest European airline. Despite operating the most extensive global network, Turkish Airlines hasn’t experienced a fatal accident since 2009. The airline also earned accolades for its catering, inflight entertainment, and was named the ‘Best Airline in Europe’ by Skytrax in 2024.
- TAP Portugal: Coming in at 14th globally, TAP Portugal is Europe’s second-safest airline. It boasts an impeccable safety record since 1977 and offers fear-of-flying courses for passengers.
- Other Notables: Scandinavian Airlines (16th), British Airways (17th), Iberia (18th), Finnair (19th), and Lufthansa Group (20th, including SWISS) rounded out Europe’s contributions to the global top 25 list. Iberia’s remarkable year earned it its first-ever spot, praised for its on-time performance, customer service, and catering.

- Ryanair: Secured 3rd place globally as the safest low-cost airline in the world, with a spotless safety record over its 40-year history.
- easyJet: Ranked 4th globally, this UK-based carrier maintains an unblemished safety history over its 30 years of operations.
- Wizz Air: At 7th globally, this airline boasts a young fleet with an average aircraft age of under five years and has never lost a passenger.
Additional low-cost airlines making the global top 25 include Norwegian (12th), Vueling (13th), Jet2 (14th), Eurowings (20th), and airBaltic (25th). Jet2 earned recognition for its excellent customer service, while airBaltic celebrated its first inclusion in the rankings.
