“Welcome home”: Biden greets Trump on arrival at the White House

On the morning of January 20, incoming U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at the White House for a traditional tea with Joe and Jill Biden.

Upon their arrival, President Biden greeted the Trumps with the words, “Welcome home.”

A video shows the four exchanging words before entering the White House for the tea. Biden shared a photo of the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), saying that serving the American people had been “the honor of his life.”

As is tradition, the outgoing U.S. president accompanies the newly elected president to the Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony. Before this, both presidents and their First Ladies typically participate in a tea at the White House.
