Poland’s liberal-globalist candidate still favoured in upcoming presidential election

If Poland’s presidential election were held this Sunday, Rafał Trzaskowski would emerge as the clear frontrunner, according to a recent poll. Conducted by the Pollster Research Institute on January 17-18 for Super Express, the survey shows the Civic Coalition (KO) candidate leading with 37% of voter support.

Trailing behind in second place is Karol Nawrocki, representing the ruling Law & Justice party (PiS), with 27%—a notable 10-point gap. Analysts suggest Nawrocki’s backing largely comes from PiS’s traditional voter base, which might limit his ability to appeal to undecided voters.

In third place, Sławomir Mentzen of Confederation secured 14%, reflecting the party’s success in energizing its younger supporters. “Confederation is effectively mobilizing its young electorate, which makes Mentzen an important player in this campaign,” Super Express noted.

Meanwhile, Szymon Hołownia of the Third Way received 11%, indicating a decline in his popularity. Other candidates fared poorly: Magdalena Biejat (New Left) and Grzegorz Braun (Confederation of the Polish Crown) each garnered 3%, while Adrian Zandberg (Together) managed just 2%. Three candidates—Marek Woch (Nonpartisan Local Government Officials), Marek Jakubiak (Free Republicans), and Piotr Szumlewicz (Union Alternative)—each secured only 1%.

The poll, conducted via the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) method, surveyed 1,004 adult Poles. The sample, representative of citizens aged 18 and older, carries a margin of error of approximately 3%.

Poland’s first round of presidential elections is scheduled for May 18, and all eyes are on whether Trzaskowski’s lead will hold steady or if other candidates will close the gap in the weeks ahead.
