Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, during a joint press conference with Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán, stated that the Slovak opposition is preparing for actions similar to the events on Maidan in Ukraine.
According to Fico, the opposition forces intend to seize government buildings, resist the government’s work, and cooperate with external forces. He noted that he could not name specific individuals or circumstances, but assured that the information about the planned operation is serious.
I cannot name names, I cannot name circumstances, but I can say with all seriousness that the Slovak opposition is preparing for a Maidan. The Slovak opposition is preparing to occupy government buildings, resist the work of the government, and cooperate with foreign forces, Fico said.
The Prime Minister’s statement coincided with recent warnings from the Slovak counterintelligence agency about a possible operation to destabilize the situation in the country. Security services claim that in recent weeks, there has been an intensification of political activity aimed at undermining internal stability.
Last week, representatives of the Slovak opposition visited Kyiv, where they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This visit took place on the same day that Zelensky invited Robert Fico to Kyiv, but the latter refused to travel. This refusal also fueled rumors of political disagreements between the Slovak government and the Ukrainian leadership.
