10 people killed, 15 others injured as truck crashes into chasm in India

A truck carrying fruit traders plunged into a gorge in the Yellapura region, reports The Times of India. Ten people were killed, and another 15 were injured in the incident.

According to preliminary police reports, the driver of the vehicle attempted to avoid a collision with a car that was overtaking recklessly. To prevent a head-on crash, the driver swerved sharply. However, the stretch of road lacked protective barriers, resulting in the truck falling into a valley approximately 50 meters deep.

Rescue teams, local residents, and police quickly arrived at the scene. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, where some require urgent medical attention. According to doctors, the condition of several patients is critical.

Local authorities expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and promised to provide them with the necessary support. They also announced an inspection of road conditions in the area to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
