European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that a plan aimed at reducing energy prices in the European Union will be presented next month.
According to the DPA agency, von der Leyen emphasized that affordable energy prices remain a priority for the European Commission. The plan, which will include specific measures, will be unveiled in the near future.
Key steps toward lowering prices will include diversifying suppliers and developing clean energy technologies. Von der Leyen highlighted examples such as nuclear fusion, advanced geothermal technologies, and solid-state batteries.
Geothermal energy harnesses heat from the Earth’s interior to produce energy, while nuclear fusion involves the merging of atomic nuclei at extremely high temperatures, as opposed to their splitting, which occurs in traditional nuclear power plants.
According to von der Leyen, the European Commission views high energy prices as one of the main threats to the EU’s economic recovery and competitiveness.
