Germany elections: AfD migration policy overview

As Germany approaches snap elections on February 23, the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AdG) party has put migration at the center of its election manifesto, declaring it a national security issue. The party is currently in second place with 21% of the vote.

Key points of the AdG’s migration policy:

1. Strict citizenship rules: The AfD proposes reverting to pre-1990 laws, requiring at least one German parent for citizenship and ending what they call “gifted” nationalities.

2. Asylum Reform:
– Process asylum applications outside Germany.
– Eliminate migration and European solidarity quotas.
– Establish stricter requirements for documentation and identity proof.
– Restrict family reunification and permanent residency for refugees.

3. Return policy:
– Accelerate deportations, including for those under “Duldung” status.
– Use economic and visa sanctions to pressure countries to accept deportees.
– Remove the right to church asylum.

4. Syrian citizens:
– Claim Syria is no longer a war zone.
– Revoke protection for Syrians deemed criminals or security threats.
– Encourage voluntary returns through targeted campaigns.

5. Limit benefits for asylum seekers: The AfD argues that Germany’s asylum policies are overly generous, burdening the economy.

The manifesto emphasizes stricter borders, reduced migration, and integration on German terms while opposing private rescue efforts and European solidarity in asylum policies.
