The death toll from the fire at a resort in Turkey rises to 76

The death toll from a fire at the Kartalkaya ski resort in Turkey’s Bolu province has reached 76 people, according to the country’s Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya.

Nine people, including the hotel owner, have been detained as part of the investigation into the tragedy. The fire broke out early Monday morning. Many guests tried to escape by tying sheets together to climb down or jumping out of windows. Reports indicate that 51 people were injured.

According to the Ekol TV channel, the hotel building, constructed in 1974, was clad in wood, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. One survivor stated that the hotel lacked smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. At the time of the incident, the hotel had 237 occupants.
