Hungary has officially invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit, despite the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing an arrest warrant against him.
The announcement came from Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who spoke on Thursday in Budapest alongside Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
Szijjártó criticized the ICC’s November decision to indict Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, attributing it to “modern-era anti-Semitism.”
“This is an open-ended invitation… If he (Netanyahu) is able to accept it, we will be happy to welcome him here,” Szijjártó said, adding that the ICC’s actions have “discredited” the court.
Reports also suggest that Romania may choose to disregard the ICC’s arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
As a reminder, the International Criminal Court issued warrants in November 2024 for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of committing “war crimes and crimes against humanity” in Gaza.
