Poland coal mine accident leaves one dead, 15 injured

One miner died and 15 were injured as a result of an accident on a coal mine in Silesia, Poland.

The incident occurred on a mine in Knurow-Śmigłowice on Wednesday when a methane fire broke out at a depth of 850 meters.
Nine miners suffered severe burns and were taken to a specialized hospital department.

Five others were taken to other hospitals. A hospital representative in Świętochłowice reported that one of the miners had died.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
It was also reported that on January 22, rescuers found the body of a third miner who died as a result of flooding of the coal mine in Velenje in northeast Slovenia.
