The U.S. administration has decided to send approximately 1,000 military personnel to the border with Mexico.
According to an anonymous U.S. government official, the exact deployment date has not been revealed, but the new troops will join the thousands of National Guard soldiers already stationed at the border as part of the emergency declaration made by President Donald Trump. Trump had previously announced plans for the largest deportation in U.S. history.
Mexico, preparing for a possible influx of migrants, has begun constructing large-scale tent camps in the city of Ciudad Juárez. This is part of the government’s plan to create refugee centers in nine cities in the north of the country. However, local official Enrique Licon noted that these measures are “unprecedented” since the shelters must be ready to accommodate thousands of people in a short time.
Yesterday, Donald Trump instructed the Department of Defense to develop a plan for deploying troops as part of a border mission. This decision came after the declaration of a state of emergency at the border with Mexico.
