A massive rally took place in Bucharest in support of right-wing politician Călin Georgescu, who had won the first round of the presidential elections, later annulled, Digi24 reports.
Protesters began their gathering in Tineretului Park and then marched to Victory Square, where the government building is located. Before the march, an event was held in the park organized by supporters of the right-wing Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR).
The rally continued protests demanding the recognition of the results of the first round of elections and the continuation of the electoral process. Călin Georgescu himself joined the demonstrators briefly. At Victory Square, isolated clashes occurred between protesters and the police.
Earlier, the right-wing AUR party, the largest opposition force in the Romanian parliament, announced its support for Călin Georgescu in the upcoming presidential elections.
