According to Spain’s maritime rescue service, at least one body was discovered in one of the boats.

The Canary Islands continue to receive a large influx of migrants.

Data from the Ministry of the Interior reveals that in the first half of January, 3,409 migrants arrived in Spain by sea, with the vast majority landing on the Canary Islands. This number is roughly the same as during the same period last year.

In 2024, Spain saw a record number of migrants crossing its borders illegally by sea, with over 61,000 people arriving in boats. Nearly 47,000 of these migrants disembarked on the Canary Islands, including several thousand unaccompanied minors.
