Storm paralyzes Britain and Ireland: Flights canceled, hundreds of thousands without power

Storm “Eowyn” has swept through the UK and Ireland, causing disruptions in rail and air travel, leaving thousands of buildings without electricity.

Due to hazardous weather conditions, hundreds of flights were canceled on the morning of Friday, January 24, at airports in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin. Train services were halted in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Dublin Airport officials stated that further flight cancellations and delays are possible throughout the day.

As of Friday morning, 560,000 homes, farms, and office buildings in Ireland were without power due to fallen power lines.

Meteorologists predict that wind gusts could reach speeds of up to 160 km/h. Ireland’s Meteorological Service called this storm “one of the most powerful in history” of their observations.
