Colombia to close skies to US planes carrying deportable migrants

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the closure of the airspace for American planes transporting deported citizens due to the mistreatment of migrants by the US.

Petro expressed his stance on social media platform X, emphasizing that “the US cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals” and stating that he does not allow their entry into the country. He also noted that the US should develop protocols for the dignified treatment of migrants.

In this context, Brazilian authorities condemned the deportation of their citizens in handcuffs, viewing this act as a violation of the rights of Brazilians.

Additionally, in his first speech as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump promised to immediately stop illegal immigration and begin the extradition of millions of migrants, while declaring a state of emergency in the country due to the situation at the southern US border.
