The United Kingdom has decided not to accept Afghan refugees remaining in Pakistan after the United States suspended its refugee programs.
According to the Telegraph, British authorities plan to reject the relocation requests of these refugees. Many Afghans are appealing to the UK for asylum, as they face threats and persecution in Pakistan, where the situation is escalating due to the growing conflict between Islamabad and the Taliban government.
It is noted that amidst this tension, many refugees, including those who fought on the side of the former Afghan government supported by the US and unaccompanied minors, hoped for salvation in the UK. However, as reported by the Telegraph, their requests are likely to be rejected.
Earlier, it was reported that due to the suspension of relocation programs under President Trump’s order, about 1,660 Afghans, including families of US military personnel, are unable to board flights to the United States.
