Majority of Ukrainians support start of talks and ceasefire – Socis

The number of Ukrainian citizens who are ready to negotiate for the sake of a speedy end to the conflict has risen sharply, exceeding 50%.

According to the latest data from a survey conducted by the Socis sociological service, more than half of Ukrainians (50.6%) expressed support for an immediate ceasefire and the initiation of peace negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict. This shows an increase in support for diplomatic resolution among the Ukrainian population amid ongoing fighting.

Additionally, 19.5% of respondents favored a temporary “freeze” of the conflict along the current line of contact, which implies a suspension of active hostilities without a full cessation of violence, but with the possibility for subsequent negotiations. 14.7% of Ukrainians believe that hostilities should continue until the country’s borders, as established in 1991, are fully restored. 10.2% of those surveyed advocate for ending the conflict under the condition of returning to Ukraine’s borders as they were on February 23, 2022.
