Norwegian police have arrested five Polish nationals for operating drones in a restricted flight zone. The incident occurred near the headquarters of the country’s counterintelligence agency.
According to Polsat News, the drones were flown near the Kolsås military base on the outskirts of Oslo. The base houses the Norwegian Security Service Command, the National Cybersecurity Center, the Oslo Garrison, and a NATO unit supporting air operations in Northern Europe.
To identify the drone operators, police deployed significant resources, including a helicopter. Following their arrest, the suspects were taken to a detention center.
The Consular Department of the Polish Embassy in Oslo has not yet received official information regarding the detention of its citizens. On January 13, unidentified drones were also reported at Riga Airport. In response, Latvia’s Defense Minister Andris Sprūds proposed stricter penalties for those violating drone operation regulations and endangering public safety.
