An explosion rocked a residential building in the Bagarmossen suburb of Stockholm, leading to two arrests and a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blast.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours, around 9:00 AM, and was reported by local residents who described hearing a loud explosion, followed by windows shaking from the force of the blast.
Shortly after the explosion, two individuals dressed in dark clothing were seen fleeing from the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the explosion took place near the entrance of an apartment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Stockholm police spokesperson Daniel Vikdahl commented on the case, stating, “Our work is made easier by the fact that it happened in the morning, and there are many witnesses.”
The police have opened an investigation for causing significant damage and serious violations of explosive substances laws. While two suspects have been arrested, it remains unclear if they are directly connected to the explosion.
The recent incident is part of a concerning rise in similar explosions across Sweden, particularly in the Stockholm area. Just last week, another blast occurred in the Farsta neighborhood, in the same building where an explosion took place in December.
These explosions are believed to be tied to criminal gangs that are recruiting young people to carry out these attacks in exchange for rewards. Swedish and Danish police have ramped up cooperation in response to the growing trend of Swedish teens being recruited for criminal activities in Copenhagen.
