The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has raised its requirements for the number of illegal immigrant arrests, setting a target of 1,800 arrests per day, according to the New York Post citing sources.
Earlier, the Washington Post reported that Trump was disappointed with the results of his mass deportation campaign and instructed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to increase arrests from several hundred to 1,200-1,500 per day.
The publication states that since Trump took office, ICE has conducted over 4,500 arrests and raids in major U.S. cities such as New York, Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston. The White House is demanding that the agency significantly accelerate the pace of its arrest operations.
In his inaugural speech on January 20, Trump promised to immediately stop the infiltration of illegal immigrants into the U.S. and begin the extradition of millions of migrants. He also declared a state of emergency at the southern border of the country.
