EU to allocate a billion euros for defense technology

The European Union will allocate one billion euros for defense technologies in 2025 as part of the European Defense Fund (EDF).

This decision was made by the European Commission, as confirmed by its representative, Thomas Renier, who announced it during a briefing in Brussels.

The funds will be used to finance joint defense research and development projects, which are crucial for strengthening the security and protection of EU countries. Specifically, the program aims to support the development of critical technologies needed to enhance Europe’s defense capabilities.

The funding will be directed towards research and development in areas such as cybersecurity, unmanned technologies, precision weapons systems, and defense communications. One of the goals is to create more effective and innovative solutions for protecting the EU’s borders and infrastructure.

This decision is part of a broader EU strategy to strengthen defense and strategic autonomy. In recent years, the European Union has been actively working to improve its defense infrastructure and reduce its dependence on external supplies of weapons and technologies. Additionally, increased defense funding will strengthen the scientific and technological potential of EU member states, making them better prepared for modern security challenges.
