China is building a massive military command center, ten times larger than the Pentagon, according to the Financial Times, citing U.S. officials and satellite images.
The construction is taking place on a site with a diameter of over 4 km, located southwest of Beijing, 30 km from the city. Satellite images reveal deep pits, which, according to military experts, suggest the construction of fortified bunkers to protect Chinese military leaders in the event of a military conflict, including nuclear war.
Major work began in mid-2024, as evidenced by recent satellite images. Chinese authorities have yet to comment on the project.
This new high-tech underground command center for military authorities… highlights China’s ambition to develop not only world-class conventional armed forces but also advanced capabilities for conducting nuclear warfare, said Dennis Wilder, former head of China analysis at the CIA.
