Germany fails to pass project on tougher migration laws

The German Parliament (Bundestag) voted on Friday evening against a bill aimed at tightening migration laws, a proposal that had previously sparked mass protests across the country.

A total of 350 deputies voted against the bill, while 338 supported it.

The proposed legislation included the introduction of permanent border controls in Germany, a ban on entry for asylum seekers, and the detention of foreign nationals subject to deportation.

The bill was supported by the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU), Alternative for Germany (AfD), the Free Democratic Party (FDP), and the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW). Meanwhile, the ruling coalition of the Social Democrats (SPD) and the Greens opposed it.
