AfD tops poll among German gay dating app users ahead of critical Bundestag election

The anti-globalist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has emerged as the most popular choice among German users of the gay dating app Romeo, according to a recent survey conducted between January 24 and February 2. Nearly 28% of over 60,000 respondents on the app said they would vote for the AfD in the upcoming Bundestag elections on February 23.

While the survey wasn’t designed for accurate election predictions and excluded lesbians, it highlighted a significant preference for the far-right party. The Green party followed with 19.9%, and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) was third at 17.6%. Other results included 12.5% for the Social Democratic Party (SPD), 6.5% for the Left party, and 4.5% for the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW). The Liberal Party trailed with just 3.6%, while 7.3% chose “others.”

Age seemed to play a role in the results. Among men over 60, the AfD’s support dropped to 19.8%, with the CDU and SPD leading. However, the AfD dominated among younger age groups: 34.7% of 18-24-year-olds, 32.3% of those aged 25-39, and 27.2% of 40-59-year-olds backed the party.

Despite criticisms of the AfD as homophobic, co-leader Alice Weidel, in a lesbian relationship with a woman of Sri Lankan descent, defends the party’s stance, particularly on rising homophobic violence, which the party links to mass migration.
