Brussels metro disrupted after shooting incident, suspects may be hiding in tunnels

Brussels’ metro system faced major disruptions on Wednesday morning following a shooting near the “Clémenceau” station in Anderlecht.

STIB, the company managing the Brussels metro, confirmed that services on lines 2 and 6 were halted between stations near the European Parliament and those in Anderlecht. Several tram lines, including 4, 10, 51, and 82, were also affected.

The police proceeded to close the “Brussels Midi,” “Delacroix,” and “Clémenceau” stations as part of the security measures.

Authorities indicated that the suspects might be hiding within the metro tunnels, according to reports from local media.

“A shooting took place. Surveillance footage shows that the suspects fled toward the ‘Clémenceau’ metro station,” said Sarah Fredericks, spokesperson for the southern police of Brussels.

“For safety reasons, we had to close the metro line. There are no reported injuries,” she added.
