Greenland has announced snap parliamentary elections for March 11, 2025, according to The Guardian.
The decision was made by the island’s Prime Minister Múte Egede and supported by the parliament, in light of recent statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump about his desire to purchase Greenland.
We are going through a serious period. A period that we have never experienced in our country. Now is not the time for internal division, said Egede, emphasizing the importance of unity during this historic moment.
According to The Guardian, the upcoming election campaign will focus on Greenland’s pursuit of independence, the development of its economy, and its relations with Denmark and the U.S. All parliamentary parties have supported the island’s desire for independence from Denmark, rejecting the idea of joining the United States.
