The majority of Canadian citizens are against the idea of joining the U.S., proposed by the new American president Donald Trump, according to a poll by the British company YouGov.

77% of Canadians opposed the idea of their country becoming part of the U.S., while only 15% supported it. 8% of respondents were undecided. At the same time, 72% of Canadians have a negative view of Trump, while 22% expressed a positive opinion of him.

In the U.S., one-third of Americans (36%) support Canada’s joining, while 42% oppose it, and 22% are undecided. A recent survey also showed that nearly half of Danes consider the U.S. to be a serious threat to their country, with the majority opposing the sale of Greenland to the U.S.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to advocate for the idea of Canada’s joining, claiming that if Canada becomes part of the U.S., it could avoid trade tariffs and receive military protection.
