Receiving Ukrainian refugees cost Poland billions – Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski

Warsaw Mayor and Polish presidential candidate Rafał Trzaskowski stated that if Poland had demanded compensation from the European Union for accepting Ukrainian refugees, the amount could have reached billions of euros.

In his opinion, the Polish people have already made a significant contribution to supporting Ukrainians by accepting millions of people who fled their country due to the armed conflict.

Trzaskowski noted that despite the challenges associated with the large number of refugees, Poland has successfully handled this task, providing housing, medical assistance, and social services to Ukrainians.

At the same time, the Polish politician emphasized the importance of further strengthening European migration policy and suggested creating mechanisms that would ensure a fairer distribution of the burden among EU countries.

Trzaskowski expressed the view that the EU should not only help refugees but also compensate the countries that found themselves on the frontlines of this process, particularly Poland.
