Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky stated that a meeting between the Russian president and the U.S. president, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, may take place in the near future.
Slutsky said that the meeting could happen as soon as February or March.
“February or March, we won’t speculate and will give the leaders the opportunity to prepare for it properly and thoroughly, but it will happen soon,” Slutsky told journalists on Thursday, responding to a question about the likelihood of a meeting between Putin and Trump.
He noted that the probability of contact between the Russian and U.S. presidents is “100 percent.”
According to him, such a meeting “requires serious preparation, which is currently in an advanced stage.”
“Therefore, in the near future, I believe we will have specific information about the meeting, and I hope it will have constructive outcomes for the most pressing issues in today’s global politics. These include Ukraine, the Middle East, and global political and international relations in the near future. I am confident that it will be a significant meeting, and it will not be in vain,” Slutsky said.
