Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares flatly dismissed Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz’s proposal that Spain should take in displaced Palestinians from Gaza.
Speaking on Spanish radio station RNE, Albares insisted, “Gazans’ land is Gaza, and it must be part of a future Palestinian state.”
Katz instructed the Israeli army to draft a plan for the “voluntary departure” of Gazans, as reported by Israeli media. This came on the heels of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s unexpected declaration that the U.S. intends to take control of Gaza, relocate its population, and turn the area into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Katz further claimed that Spain, Ireland, and Norway—countries that recognized a Palestinian state last year—are now “legally obligated” to accept Gazan refugees. However, Spain made it clear: Gaza’s future lies within Palestinian borders, not in relocation schemes.
