Canada ready to join development of Iron Dome missile defense shield for U.S.

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair stated that the country is prepared to participate in the implementation of the “Iron Dome” missile defense project proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He made this statement during a conversation with journalists at the end of his visit to Washington, according to AFP.

Blair noted that Canada is already an important partner in North American defense, participating in NATO and NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) joint air defense programs.

Frankly, an integrated missile defense system for all of North America makes sense for all countries in the region and should not be limited to just the border between the U.S. and Canada, he added.

The minister emphasized that, in this case, Canada could demonstrate its readiness to be a partner and make a significant contribution to the alliance.

Recently, Trump signed an executive order mandating the development of the “Iron Dome” air defense system for the U.S., similar to the one used by Israel to intercept missiles. He instructed the development of a “next-generation missile defense shield” aimed at defending against ballistic, hypersonic, and modern cruise missiles, including through the use of space interceptors.
