Unemployment in climbs to 4.3% in the Czech Republic

Unemployment in the Czech Republic has risen, with fewer job opportunities available across the country. In January, the unemployment rate increased to 4.3%, up from 4.1% in December.

The number of unemployed individuals climbed to 320,516, a rise of 14,038 compared to the previous month. According to the Czech Labor Office, job vacancies also saw a significant drop, with only 83,323 available positions in January—down by 163,250 from December 2024. A year ago, in January 2024, the unemployment rate stood at 4%.

The increase in unemployment was noted across nearly all regions, with the exception of Prague. The Ústí nad Labem region saw the highest unemployment rate at 6.4%, followed by the Moravian-Silesian region at 6%. Meanwhile, the capital, Prague, recorded the lowest unemployment rate, at 2.8%.
