Danes propose buying California, petition already signed by 200,000 people

In Denmark, an ironic petition has emerged suggesting the purchase of California from the United States. The petition’s authors claim that their country needs “more sun and palm trees.”

They state that Denmark is ready to offer Donald Trump a trillion dollars to part with California.

The petition’s creators are convinced that Trump does not particularly value California, citing his past statements where he called it “the most broken state in America” and his repeated conflicts with local authorities. The petition argues that the president “would be willing to sell California for the right price,” and to make the deal even sweeter, the Danes offer a “lifetime supply of Danish pastries.”

The petition proposes renaming Disneyland to “Hans Christian Andersen Land” and installing bike lanes throughout Los Angeles, along with street kiosks selling Smørrebrød (traditional Danish open-faced sandwiches). The text also promises California residents “the rule of law, free healthcare, and a fact-based policy.”
