Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sharply criticized the European Union’s approach to the Ukraine conflict on Thursday, taking aim at EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas for suggesting that Europe should play a leading role in negotiations.
Orbán voiced his disapproval on the social platform X (formerly Twitter), contrasting the EU’s stance with ongoing discussions involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“This declaration is a sad testament of bad Brusselian leadership. While President Donald Trump and President Putin negotiate on peace, EU officials issue worthless statements.,” Viktor Orbán said.
His remarks came in response to a declaration by key EU leaders—including officials from France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain, and the UK—affirming support for Ukraine’s sovereignty as Trump and Putin prepared for discussions on the war’s resolution.
“You can’t request a seat at the negotiating table. You have to earn it! Through strength, good leadership and smart diplomacy. The position of Brussels – to support killing as long as it takes – is morally and politically unacceptable,” Orbán added.
